Job Overview
AWS America is seeking a skilled and experienced COBOL Mainframe Programmer/Developer to join our consulting team. This role focuses on translating complex business requirements into reliable programming solutions, maintaining and enhancing custom applications, and providing production support for mission-critical systems.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop well-structured COBOL programs by translating analysis and design documents into working code.
- Maintain and enhance custom-developed software, including data entry screens, batch processes, reports, queries, and menus.
- Conduct detailed code reviews and analyze business processes to support non-database functions.
- Test program changes by updating files, executing test runs, and validating results against requirements.
- Identify and resolve data errors through application logic.
- Create data analysis and summary reports using IBM and Microsoft tools.
- Assist in converting legacy COBOL applications into web-based solutions.
- Prepare program-level and user-level documentation to support the SDLC.
- Enhance applications to reduce operating time and increase system efficiency, following organizational standards.
Required Experience & Skills
- 5+ years of COBOL programming and development experience on IBM/DELL mainframe environments.
- Expertise in COBOL, JCL, DB2, and Control-M.
- Strong knowledge of the software development life cycle (design → development → testing → deployment).
- Proven ability to troubleshoot, test, and debug for accuracy and performance.
- Strong analytical skills for supporting non-database functions and correcting data logic issues.
- Experience preparing program documentation and user manuals.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to secure user sign-off prior to production releases.
- Commitment to software optimization and adherence to source code management standards.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of Java programming.
- Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.
- Experience working with PostgreSQL databases.
- Exposure to Kofax or similar automation/document management tools.
